Tis the Season

This time of the year means different things to different people.  School starting, football season, cooler weather, etc.  For most of my life, this time of year has meant one thing above all else… soccer season.  Until I graduated college, being a soccer player was one of the ways I defined myself.  It was just part of who I was.  So I loved this time of year more than any other time.  It has been 10 years since I graduated college.  I no longer define myself as a soccer player, but still love this time of year.  Now I have kids that are old enough to play and once again… it’s soccer season.

All three girls are playing this fall.

Today the whole family went to a University of Utah Women’s soccer game.  I love going to the games.  I don’t get quite as nostalgic as I used to.  I guess I really am getting old.  However, the games will always bring back good memories and besides that, they are just fun to watch.  It was a great game and a good win for the Utes.

Happy Fall and soccer season to everyone.

Grandma Zollinger

My mom is the most selfless person I know.  She is willing to help anybody out at the drop of a hat.  She has helped me more than I could ever dream to repay.  She has been there for me after each one of my baby’s births… even Ava’s when we were in Turkey.  For the past 2 weeks she has been staying with us.  The combination of a new baby and my ever high maintenance little 13 month old is enough to overwhelm.  Add in a few more kids with homework, games, practices, plus all the normal homemaking duties, etc. and it is all craziness.  Having my mom here was so great.  I would be a huge mess right now if it weren’t for her.  She went home last night.  We were all sad to see her go.  Having 2 of me around the house makes things 10 times easier, not just twice as easy.  She is just an hour and a half away, so I know if I need her, she is there.  However, today was a shot right into reality for me.  So far things are going OK.  Ask me in a few weeks when I’m good and sleep deprived and we’ll see then.  Thanks mom for being the greatest mom and grandma ever!!! We love you!

Broken Arm, zoey

3rd time’s a charm….. only if that means the 3rd time is the last time.  For the 3rd time, Zoey has a broken arm.  This is the 2nd time it was caused by a certain older sister pushing her.  That certain older sister has been making Zoey’s bed and doing her chores this week.  Today Zoey finally got the splint off and got the hard cast.  She was very excited about choosing the color.  And what says girl better than bright pink?  The good news is that the cast is water proof.  Makes for easier hand washing and showers.  Here’s to no more broken arms.

Zachary

Nine months ago we were shocked to learn we were expecting a little surprise addition to our family.  I was scared, excited, nervous, basically just a bundle of emotions.  Even though I didn’t have any real complications, it was not an easy pregnancy for me.  Since Beckham was only 4 months old when I got pregnant with the little surprise bundle, the 2 pregnancies ran together.

On September 10, 2012 at 2:38 pm we welcomed our little surprise, Zachary Kenneth Burgess, into the world.  He had the cord wrapped around his neck three times, but once that was removed he announced his appearance with a high pitched scream.  He weighed in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

After his first bath…

Chris & I with our 5 little nuggets.  We feel so blessed to have cute little Zachary join our family and couldn’t be more happy that he surprised us.

Welcome to the world little Zachary and welcome to the Burgess family.

basketball, Beckham, Chris, Utah

About a month and a half ago Chris took us all to the Utah Bookstore in search of a little Utah basketball jersey for Beckham.  He was frustrated to find nothing.  It was shocking the selection they didn’t have.  I assume they might have one during basketball season.  I would hope at least.  For the time being however, we went home empty handed and a little bummed out.  Our search in other stores was also without success.

Chris and I dated while he was playing basketball at the U and we lived about a block away from each other.  His oldest brother Ben lived right near us with his wife Cooper, and their little girl who was 1.  They had purchased a Utah basketball jersey with Chris’s number 34 on it that was being sold in the bookstore at that time.  They now have 5 kids, and each of them had their turn wearing it.  Since their youngest is now 3, the size 2T jersey has run it’s course for them.

A month ago, when we met up in California for Chris’s little brother’s wedding, Ben & Cooper presented Chris with a little gift.  The size 2T Utah basketball jersey.  Chris could not have been more excited.  It was perfect timing.  It just fits Beckham.  It makes it a lot more special and fun than a random Utah jersey would have been, because it has Chris’s number 34 on it and was being sold because of him.  Thanks Ben and Cooper for the perfect gift!

Ava, Kelli Jo, School, zoey

Just like everyone else, I am doing the good ol’ First Day of School post.  This year I didn’t do a very good job of pictures.  I didn’t get any of the kids standing by the front door.  I didn’t make a sign for them to hold that says what grade they are going into.  They don’t ride the bus, so there is no waiting in the bus line or jumping off the bus with a smile pic.  Oh well, here is what I did get….

Kelli Jo & Zoey posing on the playground.  KJ is entering 3rd grade and Zoey 1st.

A couple days later Ava had her first day of preschool..

All three chose exactly what they wanted to wear and the way they wanted their hair done.  They all LOVED their first day and are very excited to be going to school here at home with their friends.
